French ambassador to Bangladesh Marie-Annick BOURDIN has urged businessmen to build a strong image of Chittagong to attract more investment in the port city.
She made the suggestion at a views exchange meeting held at the Bangabandhu Conference Hall of World Trade Centre Chittagong on Wednesday, said a press release issued by the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Business leaders in Chittagong were present in the meeting.
The comparatively clean and friendly city, Chittagong, has an old relation with France, BOURDIN said.
As everything is capital centred, Chittagong is not getting proper importance, she said.
The envoy said that bureaucratic tangle was the main hindrance to investing in Bangladesh.
She said that the French government would continue giving its supports to Bangladesh to help it solve problems in the readymade garment sector and Rohingya crisis. CCCI president Mahbubul Alam presided over the meeting.
He hoped that in Bangladesh there would be more French companies.
Chamber vice-president Syed Jamal Ahmed urged the ambassador to continue their supports to Bangladesh on Rohingya issue.
He also sought more French investment in the economic zones of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association director Syed Mohammad Tanvir sought technical assistance of France to create skilled manpower in fashion designing run by Chittagong Institute of Fashion Technology.
CCCI directors AKM Akhter Hossain, Johirul Islam Chowdhury, Md Ohid Siraj Chowdhury and Anjan Sekhor Das were also present, among others, in the meeting.
