Arsenic expert Dipankar Chakraborti dies

Renowned arsenic expert Dipankar Chakraborti, a former director of research and school of environment studies of Jadavpur University, breathed his last in Kolkata on Wednesday night. He was 76.
Dipankar Charaborti was a forerunner in research of arsenic contamination in South Asia.
He, along with Dhaka Community Hospital, researched and identified the arsenic affected areas in Bangladesh, said a press release issued by DCH.
It said that the WHO accepted Arsenic as a serious deathly disease of Bangladesh by the strong efforts and activities of Dipankar and Dhaka Community Hospital.
Dhaka Community Hospital chairman professor Quazi Quamruzzaman expressed his deep sorrow at the death of the arsenic expert.
