BNP distributes leaflets for Khaleda’s release

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday as part of its countrywide programme distributed leaflets among cross section of people amid arrest and police obstruction at places for ‘unconditional’ release of the party’s chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
BNP claimed that more than 20 leaders and activists were arrested from different districts, including Dhaka, during leaflet distribution programme.
The party’s senior leaders, including secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, vice-chairmen Hafizuddin Ahmed, M Shahjahan, BNP chairperson’s advisory council member Ataur Rahman Dhali and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, distributed leaflets in different areas in Dhaka city.
BNP senior joint secretary general Rizvi at a news briefing at the party’s central office alleged that police attacked leaders and activists of the party in different places during leaflet distribution.
Dhaka south city BNP in a press release claimed that about 14 leaders and activists were arrested in different areas in the city during distributing the leaflets.
The senior joint secretary general at the briefing once again announced to hold public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka city for March 11 demanding ‘unconditional’ release of Khaleda Zia who was sentenced to five years jail by a Dhaka special judge’s court in a graft case on February 8.
Earlier, BNP was denied police permission for holding the rally either at Suhrawardy Udyan or Naya Paltan on February 22. In protest the party had announced black flag demonstration in the capital on February 24.
The BNP leader said Khulna city unit BNP set March 10 for holding a rally in the divisional city.
Meanwhile, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul addressing a meeting hit back at prime minister Sheikh Hasina for branding the party as ‘corrupt’ during delivering her valedictory speech in parliament on Wednesday.
Jatitya Ganatantrik Odhikar Mancha organised the rally at National Press Club for release of Khaleda Zia.
