The monthly inflation in September on point to point basis increased to 6.1 per cent because of price hike rice, meat and vegetables.
Planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal while disclosing the data blamed damages of crops due to floods in most for the price hike throughout the country.
He said that the average rate of inflation in the first quarter of the current fiscal between July and September rose to 5.8 per cent.
The monthly inflation in rural area rose to 6.21 per cent compared to 5.95 per cent in the urban area in the same month.
The planning minister said a fear was there that there would be a disaster because of price hike of essential commodities.
However, the fear has been dispelled, he said.
He hoped that the inflation would ease in coming months with the improvement in supply situation.
