Bangladesh-Canada Association of Calgary, a platform of Bangladeshi diaspora in Calgary of Canada, celebrated Pahela Baishakh 1424 amid fanfare through holding a Baishakhi Mela on Sunday.

The event featured a mangal shobhajatra (procession of wellbeing), cultural programmes, games, and enjoying traditional food. There were also stalls of Bangladeshi food and dress, particularly saris which attracted a lot of visitors.

Many of the participants wore colourful traditional Baishakhi attires.

Noted vocalists Ferdaus Wahid and Liza from Bangladesh were main attraction of the cultural programme.

Expatriate children Lana, Laiyes, Risa,  Arian, Ohona, Kristal and Eera presented a caricature — Baishakhi Comedy School scripted and directed by Jesmin Rahman.

The association president Ahsan ul Karim, cultural affairs secretary Rita Karmakar also spoke on the occasion.
