Juba League leader held with firearm from PM’s reception

Police detained a leader of Awami Juba League from near the Hazrat Shahajalal International Airport in the capital on Friday afternoon as he took part in the mass reception programme to greet prime minister Sheikh Hasina with a firearm and two rounds of bullets.

The detainee, Selim Khan, is the information and research affairs secretary of Juba League of Dhaka city north unit, the youth front of the ruling Awami League.

Airport police station officer-in-charge Nur-e-Azam Mia told New Age that the firearm used by the Juba League leader was licensed but he was detained as none is allowed to attend any programme of PM carrying firearms.

He was detained at about 5:15pm, about one and a half hours before the PM’s flight landed at the airport, he said.
