Two expatriate writers – Shahmim Azad and Nazmun Nesa Piari – won this year’s Syed Waliullah Literary Award.
Bangla Academy introduced the award in 2014 to recognise the work of expatriate Bangladeshi authors, writing in Bangla, English or any other language.
Shamim Azad, who lives in the UK, writes poetry, novel and drama while Nazmun Nesa Piari, who lives in Germany, is a researcher and translator.
They will receive the awards including prize money worth Tk 50,000 each at the inauguration ceremony of the Amar Ekushey Granthamela in February 2017, according to a press release issued by Bangla Academy on Monday.
The academy’s executive council selected the recipients of this year’s award on October 6, the release said.
