At least three people went missing after a microbus in which they were travelling plunged into the River Dhaleshwri in Munshiganj early Saturday.

Police and fire service divers reached the spot and conducted rescue operation. The operation, however, was suspended later due to strong current in the river.

The microbus hit the railing of Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge VI at Muktarpur around 12:30am and sank into the river along with its passengers, said sub-inspector Mosharaf Hossain, in charge of Muktarpur river police outpost.

Quoting witnesses, he said there were three to four people inside the vehicle.

By examining footage from closed-circuit television of the bridge’s toll plaza, they were trying to know from which direction the vehicle came.

Meanwhile, divers found bumper of the microbus below 60 feet in the river around 2:00am but they could not spot the vehicle.
