Yet another factory fire left 10 workers killed on Sunday inside their workplace in Gazipur as investigators found extreme lack of fire safety arrangement.
The fire originated from makeshift structure on the top of two-storey building at Keshrati village of the district at about 5:45pm.
The primary investigation by the police officials in Gazipur suggested poor fire exit led the causalities at the Luxury Fan Factory.
The fire service and civil defence control room officials said that three of their fire engines brought the fire under control after one hour and a half later while another fire engine carrying deputy director Debashih Bardhan caught on the traffic congestion until 9:15pm.
Mamunur Rashid, a deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told media that most of the bodies were charred beyond recognition.
Russell Sheikh, an additional superintendent of police in Gazipur, said they have found ten bodies from the fire debris but not sure about the origin of the fire in the small space.
He said none so far made missing complaint over the fire. ‘We are also not sure whether the factory structure legal,’ said Russell.
The Gazipur police superintendent Shamsunnahar blamed poor fire safety arrangement and said the workers took shelter under a table to get protection but got killed.
The deadly fire broke out at a time when the people were reeling from the aftermath of another devastating fire at a factory in Keraniganj that left 19 workers dead.
The fire broke out at the Prime Pet and Plastic Industry factory in Keraniganj’s Chunkutia on Wednesday.
