Dhaka South City mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Thursday said that the corporation would continue its drives to free city streets from vendors and all kinds of obstacles.
‘No leeway will be given to any grabber… Gulistan footpaths have already been freed of hawkers. All obstructions on footpaths in other areas will also be removed at any cost,’ the mayor said while addressing a views exchange in the capital.
Blog.bdnews24.com, in collaboration with the Daffodil International University, organised the discussion, marking the sixth founding anniversary of the ‘citizen journalism’ initiative.
The mayor said he would not bow down to any pressure and would implement all the programmes for the interests of the city dwellers.
The mayor answered a number of questions from city dwellers relating to their local issues and assured them of solving those shortly.
He also urged the city people to start a social movement against those responsible for creating obstacles on the streets and footpaths.
‘Please inform us whenever you face any problem in the city,’ the mayor asked citizen journalists attending the meet.
Chief information commissioner professor Golam Rahman said that citizen journalism had opened a new window for the ordinary people.
He, however, urged social media users to be careful and transparent while posting any information as wrong information might lead to disastrous incidents like Ramu’s.
He wished that the citizens’ journalists would not only seek out the problems in their locality but also look for solutions.
Daffodil International University chairman Md Sabur Khan suggested that the city mayor should encourage public-private partnership to ensure adequate civic services for the city dwellers.
