A defamation case has been lodged against Dhaka University Central Students’ Union vice-president Nurul Haque Nur.
The university’s Salimullah Muslim Hall Students’ Union vice-president Muzahid Kamal Uddin filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman.
AKM Enamul Haque Rupam, a lawyer for the plaintiff, confirmed the matter to the New Age.
Muzahid earlier said Nurul had defamed the Dhaka University by his wrongdoings using the vice-president post.
On December 3, a private television aired a leaked audio clip of Nurul’s conversation over ‘exchange of money’.
The audio has also gone viral on social media.
Nurul said the television channel broadcasted part of his phone conversation to confuse people. He asked upon three mass-media to apologise.
DUCSU general secretary Golam Rabbani, who was removed from Bangladesh Chhatra League as its general secretary following extortion allegation, in a press conference on December 6 demanded Nurul’s resignation.
Nurul said there was no information about the allegation of illegal money exchange made against him in the leaked audio clip. He said a portion of his conversation was disseminated in a distorted way to tarnish his image.
