Islamic University Theatre troupe staged Liberation War-based play ‘Shefalir Maa’ at Daina Chattar of the university recently.
The play was staged marking the month of Victory.
‘Shefalir Maa’ has been penned by Shahriar Shohag and directed by Nishat Urmi, a third year student of marketing department of the university.
Islamic University Theatre troupe adviser and teacher at IU law department Professor M Shahjahan Mondol was present as the chief guest while applied nutrition and food technology department official Gausul Azam Rintu was present as the special guest at the show.
Besides, around two hundred students from various departments of IU gathered at the venue to enjoy the play.
‘Shefalir Ma’ portrays acts of genocide committed by Pakistani occupation forces against the mass people during the Liberation War in 1971.
Sharmin Sumi, Kulsum, Oni Athikur Rahman, Piyash, Muyeed, Mosaddeque and Joy acted in the play.
‘I thank IU Theatre troupe for staging a play based on the Liberation War. The play gave us a glimpse into the tumultuous days of the war. It was both entertaining and educative,’ Zannatul Tajri Ritu, a MA English department student of IU, told New Age.
‘We staged the play to make the students aware of the history of the Liberation War. I hope the audience found the play entertaining,’ said IU Theatre troupe general secretary Ashikur Rahman Bony.
