Students of theatre and performance studies department of Dhaka University staged two plays namely ‘Laldighite Jyotsna’ and ‘Chhoddobesh’ at TSC auditorium on Wednesday.
The plays were staged on the fourth day of ‘14th Central Annual Theatre Festival’, a ten-day theatre festival, which has been organised by the theatre and performance studies department of the university.
‘Laldighite Jyotsna’ has been written by Hasan Azizul Huq and directed by Sonia Parvin Ona. The play gives the audience a glimpse into violence against women in patriarchal society.
Zarin Tasnim, Taslima Husain Nodi, Abtahi Samad Fahim, Rafayeatullah, Saleh Rana, Nadira Anjum Mim, Rifat Kabir, Sayema Akter, Husain Jibon and other students of DU theatre and performance studies department acted in the play.
Following which, students staged ‘Chhoddobesh’ at the venue.
The play is an adaptation of the Hungarian playwright and novelist Ferenc Molnar’s play named ‘A Matter of Husbands’. It has been directed by Farzia Haque Farin.
Nikita Azam and Devlina Chando acted in the play.
‘We have been organising the festival for the last 14 years. The festival features plays directed and acted by final year students of our department,’ Ahmedul Kabir, chairman of DU theatre and performance studies department, told New Age.
The festival will end on December 10.
