Bangla Academy accorded reception to its former officials at a programme held at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Hall of the academy on Tuesday.
The programme, titled ‘Surobhito Sondhay’, was organised by the academy marking its 64th founding anniversary.
Former president and director general of the academy Professor Mohammad Harun-Ur-Rashid, former director generals Professor Abul Mansoor Muhammad Abu Musa, Professor Dr Syed Anwar Hussain, Professor Dr Abul Kalam Monjur Morshed, former directors Farhad Khan, Abdul Hannan Thakur, Jakiul Haque, Nurul Islam, Enayet Karim and former deputy directors Anwar Husian, Abdul Mazid, Mushiduddin Ahmed, Kalyani Ghosh, Anisur Rahman and Helal Uddin were accorded reception at the programme.
President of Bangla Academy national Professor Anisuzzaman, director general of the academy poet Habibullah Sirajee and its secretary Mohammad Anwar Hossain, among others, others were present at the event.
The former officials of the academy shared their memories at the programme.
‘I have a special kind of attachment with the premises of Bangla Academy. I wish the academy good luck,’ said Professor Dr Syed Anwar Hussain.
‘I have a lot of memories of the Bangla Academy. After we established a sculpture of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the academy, we received phone call from someone who threatened us. But that did not scare us,’ said Professor Abul Mansoor Muhammad Abu Musa.
‘I feel happy seeing where Bangla Academy has reached today. I hope it will continue to grow,’ he added.
‘I tried to form a committee for publishing a science-based dictionary during my term but I had to leave before it was published. I greatly regret not being able to finish it,’ said professor Dr Abul Kalam Monjur Morshed.
Following which, a debate and cultural show was held at the venue where officials of Bangla Academy entertained the audience presenting songs and poems.
