Dhaka University authorities on Wednesday sacked five teachers for not joining work after completing their study abroad on leave.
The decision was made at a meeting of the university syndicate, the highest decision making body of the university, Wednesday evening with vice-chancellor Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
Beside them, two staffers of the university were also sacked — one on allegation of rape and another on allegation of violating university rules.
The identities of the teachers and staffers, however, could not be known immediately.
Vice-chancellor Akhtaruzzaman said that the five teachers were sacked for living abroad for long time without permission after the expiry of their study leave.
