Students protest onion price hike

On November 19, students of different universities and concerned organisations protested at the price hike of onion across the country.

Consumer rights related non-governmental body Conscious Consumers Society and their youth wing Consumer Youth Bangladesh organised the protests simultaneously in seven university campuses.

Demonstrators condemned the high price of the daily kitchen-commodity onion and called for abstention from use.

The participating universities are: University of Rajshahi, Islamic University, Sylhet Agricultural University, University of Barisal, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University and Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University.

On November 17, General Students’ Right Protection Council brought out a procession at the University of Dhaka protesting at the high price of onion.

On November 21, Bangladesh Student Union’s Chandpur district unit held their 27th council at Chandpur.

On November 17, Bangladesh Student Federation’s Barisal unit observed 43rd death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani at Barishal.

On November 17, students of University of Rajshahi held a protest at the campus demanding punishment of the assaulters of Sohrab Mia, a third year student of the department of finance and banking.

On November 16, Yusra Binte Sikandar, a student of Independent University Bangladesh won the title of ‘Division L’ Champion in Humorous Speech Contest 2019 during an event titled ‘Ebullience 2019’ in Cox’s Bazar.
