Commonwealth training for youths begins

A 3-day international training workshop on consortium for youth work in Commonwealth Higher Education began on Wednesday at the BRAC CDM in Rajendrapur, Gazipur.

Bangladesh Open University vice-chancellor MA Mannan inaugurated the workshop and also chaired the opening session.

He said the young people are the vital resource of the country. They need adequate tools to develop selves. He further added that youth education will build the capacity of youth of the country and can develop them with economic empowerment.

Pro vice-chancellor Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, education adviser Amina Osman of the Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London and Additional Secretary Anwarul Islam Sarker of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, among others, spoke in the inaugural session.

A total of 60 representatives from BOU, Youth Training Centre, Savar, Youth Training Centre Bogura, Sheikh Hasina National institute of Youth development, NGOs, DYDW students and 14 foreign delegates from UK, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka also are taking part in the workshop.

Open university registrar Md Shafiqul Alam and Informaton and Public Relations Division director Md Abul Kasem Shikder were also present in the inaugural session. The organising partners of workshop are Commonwealth Secretariat, University of the West Indies and Commonwealth of Learning.
