Detectives on Tuesday arrested five leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Awami League’s student wing, at Puthiya in Sirajganj in connection with a case filed over the throwing of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute’s principal into a pond on November 1.
The arrested were Kamal Hossain, 24, of Natore, Murad Hossain, 19, of Rajshahi, Sabbir Ahmmed, 22, of Pabna, Salman, 22, of Chapainawabganj, and Raihanul Islam, 21, of Rajshahi.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson addition deputy commissioner Golam Ruhul Kuddus told New Age that the institute Chhatra League joint secretary Kamal –also student of computer– led electronics student Murad, electro medical student Raihanul, former student Sabbir Ahmed Shanto and others to assault the institute’s principal.
On November 1, a group of Chattra League activists led by Sourav assaulted principal Farid Uddin Ahamed and threw him into a pond as he turned down a request of the activists to allow some of their fellows to sit for examinations without required attendances in classes.
A case was filed in this regard with Chandrima police station against fifty people, including eight Chhatra League activists.
