A cricket tournament was postponed following a clash between the activists of local Awami League and its student wing Chhatra League in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur on Sunday night.
Locals said the anti-narcotics cricket tournament was supposed to begin on Monday morning at Cirka Chandpur High School and College playground where upazila AL ex-president Khaze Ahmmed Majumder was invited.
Meanwhile, Gobindapur Uttar union Chhatra League organised an opinion exchange meeting at the same venue at the same time that led to infighting between the two groups at about 9:00pm on Sunday, they added.
The stage, made for the tournament’s inaugural ceremony, was vandalised during the infighting, said witnesses.

Cirka Chandpur High School and College principal Abu Jafor Md Shamsuddin said that none of the group took permission from the authorities concerned for the programmes.
