The High Court Division on Monday upheld a lower court’s order d the Hong Kong-based Standard Chartered to freeze the accounts of former foreign minister M Morshed Khan and his son Faisal Morshed Khan.
A bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and AKM Zahirul Huq rejected the appeals of Morshed Khan and Faisal Morshed Khan challenging the order of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
On September 19, the lower court had ordered Standard Chartered to freeze the accounts Morshed and Faisal, as prayed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
ACC submitted that the Hong Kong authorities gave the information about the accounts of Morshed and Faisal under the Mutual Legal Assistance Act 2011.
In 2013, the ACC filed a money laundering case with the Gulshan police station against Morshed Khan, his wife Nasrin Khan and their son Faisal and the case is pending for investigation by the ACC.
Ajmalul Hossain and ruling Awami League MP Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh appeared for Morshed Khan and his son.
Recently Morshed Khan resigned from BNP.
ACC was represented by attorney general Mahbubey Alam and Khurshid Alam Khan.
