Khulna division are in a poll position to bring home the 21st National Cricket League title after they reduced Dhaka division to 102-5 in the second innings on the third day of their title deciding sixth round match at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Monday.
Dhaka lead Khulna by two-run with five wickets in hand, after Khulna posted 379 in their second innings to earn a 100-run lead thanks to an unbeaten 150 from their skipper Nurul Hasan.
In Rajshahi, Rangpur will be pushing for a win on the final day against the hosts in battle to avoid relegation, after finishing the day on 228-6 in their second innings, leading Rajshahi by 248-run.
In a dead rubber match at Barishal, Dhaka Metro were all out for 466 in the first innings with centuries from Marshall Ayub and Shamsur Rahman to take a 52-run lead.
Ealier, Sylhet ensured tier-one promotion after completing a nine-wicket win over Chattogram inside two days in Bogura with pacer Ruyel Miah leading the way with an astounding 13-65.
Khulna v Dhaka
Resuming on 252-3, in reply to Dhaka’s 279, Khulna lost Tushar Imran (82) early on the day but fellow overnight batsman Nurul, who was unbeaten on 56, continued his lone battle.
Nurul formed small partnerships with the tail-enders, hit 13 fours and seven sixes in his innings and made 94 of the 127 runs scored by his team on the day, to give them a sizable lead.
Dhaka were one bowler short after pacer Shahadat Hossain was banned from the match after physically abusing team-mate Arafat Sunny Jnr on the field on day two but all-rounder Shuvagata stepped up for Dhaka by claiming 5-46.
Dhaka then were on their way to an innings defeat after getting reduced to 10-4 inside nine overs, with Ziaur Rahman striking thrice.
Shuvagata (42) and Roqibul Hasan (39 not out) then steadied their innings with a 76-run stand but Nahidul dismissed the former to again put Dhaka on the back foot.
Roqibul and Arafat (nine not out) remained unbeaten at stumps.
Rajshahi v Rangpur
Rajshahi were bundled out for 254 in their first innings, while replying to Rangpur’s 274, after resuming on 224-5 with Ariful Haque claiming three wickets to finish with first-class career best figures of 6-41.
Tanbir Hyder then hit an unbeaten 72 and was well supported by Ariful (48) and Jahid Jabed (33) to guide Rangpur to a commanding spot in the must win encounter for both the sides.
Metro v Barishal
Resuming on 225-2, Metro overnight pair Shamsur and Marshall, who were unbeaten on 90 and 85 respectively, completed their hundreds while Al-Amin (92) and Zabid Hossain (62) struck fifties to guide Metro to 466 in their first innings, in reply to Barishal’s 414.
Trailing by 52, Barishal were reduced to 30-3 at stumps with Fazle Mahmud (19) and Nuruzzaman (one) not out.
