Ruyel fires Sylhet to top tier

Pacer Ruyel Miah claimed an astounding 13-65 to help Sylhet division confirm their Tier-1 promotion after completing a nine-wicket win over Chattogram division on the second day of the National Cricket League sixth and final round in Bogura on Sunday.

Ruyel claimed 5-39 in the second innings, to add to his 8-26 on the first day, to bowl out Chattogram for 165, in reply to Sylhet’s first innings total of 230, and Sylhet raced to 45-1 in 5.5 overs to complete the win.

In the tier-one title deciding match in Khulna, the home side finished the day on 252-3, after bowling out Dhaka for 279 in the first innings, thanks to fifties from Tushar Imran, Nurul Hasan and Anamul Haque.

In the other tier-one match, Rajshahi bowled out Rangpur for 274 in the first innings before reaching 224-5 at stumps in Rajshahi.

In Barishal, Shamsur Rahman and Marshall Ayub hit an unbeaten 90 and 85 as Dhaka Metro reached 225-2 at stumps after bowling out Barishal for 414 in the first innings.

Sylhet v Chattogram

Sylhet resumed their first innings on 186-5, replying to Chattogram’s 106, and added 44 runs in 17 overs on the day before getting all out.

Chattogram pacer Ifran Hossain took 6-95 while Amite Hasan (55) hit the lone fifty of the Sylhet innings.

Trailing by 124-run, Chattogram were reduced to 34-3 with Ruyel striking twice but Chattogram fought back with a 63-run stand between Irfan Sukkur (66) and Sadikur Rahman (62).

Ruyel broke the stand by running out Sadikur but Irfan continued his no battle before perishing as the ninth batter off Rejaur Rahman with the score on 160-9.

Ruyel then bowled Noman Chowdhury (0) to finish with the second best match figure in NCL history after Abdur Razzak, who claimed 15-193 against Barishal in 2011.

Shanaj Ahmed and Towfiq Khan made 18 and 11 respectively as Sylhet completed their third win in this year’s NCL. 

Khulna v Dhaka

Dhaka managed to add six-run to their overnight 273-7, with Ziaur Rahman claiming two to bundle them out inside four overs on day two.

Khulna began their reply with an 82-run opening stand between Anamul Haque (50) and Robiul Islam (45) but Nazmul Islam removed the latter and Shuvagata Hom took two to reduce them to 131-3.

Tushar and Nurul then formed an unbeaten 121-run stand as Khulna ended the day trailing by 27 runs.

Rajshahi v Rangpur

Rangpur added 11-run to their overnight 263-8, with Muktar Ali claiming the remaining wickets in successive deliveries.

Skipper Farhad Hossain and Avishek Mitra made 75 and 67 respectively as Rajshahi finished the day 50-run behind Rajshahi.

Sabbir Rahman (22) and Muktar (0) remained unbeaten at stumps with Ariful Haque claiming 3-37.

Metro v Barishal

Barishal resumed their first innings on 338-6 and overnight batsmen Moin Khan and Salman Hossain made 75 and 72 as they posted an imposing total.

Metro lost two quick wickets but Shamsur and Marshall steadied their innings with an unbeaten 157-run stand as Metro finished the day 189-run behind.
