A Chinese labourer at under-construction ‘Bangladesh-China Power Generation Company’, better known as Payra power plant, at Dhankhali in Kalapara of Patuakhali was hacked to death allegedly by his fellow Chinese worker over eating noodles on Saturday night.
The deceased, Feng Lue Jun, 36 of Hinan province of China, had been working at the power plant for about two years, police said.
Md Ali Ahmed, Patuakhali additional superintendent of police, said they arrested suspected killer Sang Zeyang, also a Chinese worker at the site.
Shahidullah Bhuiyan, manager of facilities for at the power plant, said both Feng Lue Jun and Sang Zeyang lived in a room in the power plant area.
The duo cocked noodles in their room and locked in a quarrel over eating those. At one a stage, Sang Zeyang attacked Feng Lue Jun with a knife used for cutting fruits and began stabbing Feng Lue Jun, he said.
Hearing screams, other workers and officials rushed the spot, rescued Feng Lue Jun and took him to Kalapara upazila health complex where on duty doctors declared him dead.
The hospital’s medical officer Md Refayet Hossain said that Feng Lue Jun died of profuse bleeding and he was brought dead.
The workers caught alleged killer Sang Zeyang along with the knife and handed him over to police.
Kalapara police station officer-in-charge Md Monirul islam said a case was lodged in this connection.
