Theatre troupe Dhaka Padatik staged its acclaimed play titled ‘Trial of Surya Sen’ at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.

The play, written and directed by Masum Aziz, revolves around the trial of Masterda Surya Sen, who led revolutionaries on a raid against the armoury of police and auxiliary forces in Chattrogram in the then Bengal Presidency of British Raj in 1930.

The play starts with Surya Sen’s trial in progress in a court room. Surya Sen is seen standing in front of the judge while a lawyer questions him about the activities of anti-British revolutionaries.

Besides life of Surya Sen, the play gives the audience a glimpse into the anti-British movement.

It also features characters Pritilata Waddedar, Kalpana Dutta, Ambika Chakravarti, Lokenath Bal and Nirmalsen.

Trial of Surya Sen is the 38th production of Dhaka Padatik. The play was premiered in February of 2018.
