Two suspected Rohingya drug peddlers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Border Guard Bangladesh along Tumbru border of Naikkhongchhari upazila of Bandarban early Sunday.

The deceased were Yasin, 30, and Hossain Ali, 20, of Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar.

Commanding officer of BGB 34 battalion Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haidar Azad Ahmed said a team of the paramilitary force during regular patrolling found a group of people who were dealing with drugs in the Chairman Bridge area around 5:30am.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals fired at the BGB men, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.

At one stage, Yasin and Hossain were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, the BGB official said, adding that their cohorts, however, managed to flee.
