The National Board of Revenue collected from taxpayers record Tk 802 crore in income tax in two days of the weeklong nationwide Income Tax Fair at different fair venues across the country.
In last year, the revenue board received Tk 770 crore in income tax in the first two days of the fair.
Around 1,37,115 taxpayers filed their income tax returns in the two days of this year’s edition of the fair. The figure was 1,11,451 in the first two days of last year’s event.
A record 4.04 lakh people, up 15.71 per cent on the previous year, also visited the fair venues at eight divisional cities in Dhaka, Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Rangpur, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Mymensingh, and other districts and upazilas in the two days.
On Friday alone, the NBR got Tk 479.01 crore in income tax from 73,843 taxpayers while 2.68 lakh people received tax-related services at the fair.
On Friday, the fair was held in eight divisional cities, 56 districts and 56 upazilas.
The NBR witnessed huge crowds at all the fair venues, officials of the NBR said.
They said that people thronged the tax fair to submit tax returns and receive other tax-related services at the fair venue at the Officers’ Club Dhaka on Friday, a weekly holiday.
The fair venues will remain open from 9:00am to 5:00pm until November 20.
