Hosts Bangladesh finished fourth in the Bangamata Asian Senior Women’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship after they lost to Kyrgyzstan by 0-3 sets in the third place deciding match at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium on Thursday.
Nepal emerged champions in the five-nation meet when they defeated Maldives by 3-0 sets in the final at the same venue. Nepal scored 25-13, 25-12 and 25-08 points in three sets.
On their way to lifting the title, Nepal earlier defeated Maldives, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and hosts Bangladesh by straight 3-0 sets in the league phase battles.
In the third place-deciding match, Kyrgyzstan scored 25-13, 25-14 and 25-12 points in three sets against Bangladesh.
Bangladesh secured two wins against three losses in the event. They began their campaign with a 3-0 set win over Afghanistan, lost to Maldives and Nepal by identical margins in their second and third matches before beating Kyrgyzstan by 3-2 sets in their last league phase game.
Bangladesh women’s volleyball team returned to international circuit with this event after a two-year break. Bangladesh last played in an international game two years back when they took part in a three-team invitational tournament in Nepal.
