It took Mominul Haque just one match to feel the heat as Bangladesh’s Test captain as he admitted that huge media pressure often plays into the mind of players.
‘If I say one thing it may sound ridiculous to you. You guys have a big role before every series,’ Mominul said after the first day’s play against India in Indore on Thursday.
‘It may come against me, please don’t take it otherwise. When we play against Afghanistan you say they have Rashid Khan or this or that. It will come to your mind regardless of how you try not to think about it. It makes things difficult,’ he said.
Bangladesh got off to a poor start under Mominul getting folded for 150 runs in the first innings against India on Thursday.
Mominul was one of the few batsmen to offer some kind of resistance by making 37 runs but got out at a time when the team was looking to him for rebuilding the innings.
Before he made his debut as captain, Mominul was repeatedly reminded of India’s bowling strength that seemed to have affected him psychologically.
‘If you ask I must answer. Some time I think you bring such an issue forward I even did not think prior. Human psychology is such if you push some that comes to your mind. But I agree we have to be though,’ he said.
