Bangladesh will be looking to begin their ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup campaign on a winning note when they take on Hong Kong in their first Group B match at BKSP-4 venue today.

This is the second time Bangladesh are hosting the Emerging Teams Asia Cup with matches of the eight-nation event are scheduled to get underway concurrently in four venues of the country.

Bangladesh named a strong side for the tournament, which included several national players like Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Naim, Afif Hossain, Aminul Islam and Abu Hider, who were part of Bangladesh’s recent Twenty20 series against India.

Top-order batsman Nazmul Hossain will lead the side while the team also has some exciting young talents in Yasir Ali and Mahedi Hasan.

‘I can’t predict our chances in the tournament. But we will definitely try to perform our level best. If we can do that then obviously we can expect a good result,’ all-rounder Afif told reporters in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Afif said that they were not taking any opposition lightly and was confident with their preparations in the tournament.

‘We have no chance of taking any opposition lightly. We have taken a good preparation and we will definitely try to perform well so that we can get good result,’ he said.

‘This is a good platform. We will have to play with good sides. If we can perform well then our confidence will be increased,’ he added.

In the other fixtures of the opening day, India will take on Nepal at BKSP-3 in a Group B match while Pakistan and Sri Lanka will take on Afghanistan and Oman respectively in their opening Group A matches in two different venues in Cox’s Bazar.

Top two teams from each group will progress to semi-final round and the semi-finals and final are scheduled to take place at Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

The first and second semi-final will take place on November 20 and 21 respectively while the final will be held on November 23.

Bangladesh could never reach the final in any of the previous three editions of the tournament.

They reached semi-final stage for consecutive times in the previous two editions in 2017 and 2018 respectively but lost to ultimate champions Sri Lanka on both the occasions.
