Several students were injured as several rooms of the SM Hall of Pabna Government Edward College were vandalised by outsiders in an attack Saturday night. The sound of bomb explosion and gun shots were heard during the attack on the college hostels, said local people.

According to the students, 8-10 outsiders allegedly took drugs in the hall compound on Saturday evening.  The resident students rebuked them and drove them out of the hall. After a while, a group of miscreants, numbering 20 to 25, entered three rooms of the SM Hall at about 7:30pm. They beat up students and vandalised the rooms and exploded bombs. The students in the hall were terrified during the attack.

After the incident, the students blocked the Pabna-Rajshahi highway in front of the college’s main gate for an hour and a half in protest against the attack and demanding immediate arrest of the attackers. The students alleged outsider miscreants forcibly entered the hall and took drugs on the SM Hall premises since long.

The students demanded ban on the entry of outsiders into the hostel, strengthening security of the hall and closing the main gate after class time. Edward College Principal Humayun Kabir Mojumdar told New Age that necessary measures have been taken to implement the demands of students.

Pabna sadar police station officer-in-charge Nasir Ahmed said drive was underway to arrest the miscreants.
