Bangladesh women’s volleyball team returned to international circuit in style when they beat their Afghanistan counterparts by straight 3-0 sets in the maiden Bangamata Asian Senior Women’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship in Dhaka on Saturday.
Bangladesh women’s team last played an international game two years back, when they took part in a three-team invitational tournament in Nepal and the country’s women’s volleyball scene has remained largely inactive since 2013.
Bangladesh clinched the first two sets by identical 25-9 points before winning the third set by 25-3 points at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
Earlier, in the opening match of the five-nation meet, Maldives defeated Kyrgyzstan by 3-2 sets at the same venue.
Bangladesh will take on Maldives today and face Nepal and Kyrgyzstan on November 12 and 13 respectively.
Top two teams will qualify for the final scheduled to be held at the same venue on November 14. Third and fourth placed teams will play a place-deciding match on the same day.
