The final round and prize giving ceremony of the 8th English Medium Math Olympiad 2019 organised by Academia was held at United International University on Friday.
A total of 120 students, top ten in each class, from among 1,265 participants of standard one to ‘A’ levels, were awarded at the event, said a press release.
Earlier on October 12, the preliminary selection round was held across the divisions including the capital, participated by 3,500 students in the school level selection phase.
Speaking as the chief gest, education minister Dipu Moni said that shortcomings of education cannot be filled with anything else and it is not possible to achieve demographic dividend without education.
Dipu Moni expressed hope that the quality of education will change over the next five years, adding that the investigation did not find any evidence against the just affiliated 26 education institutes who obtained MPO all of whom met the required conditions.
Mentioning the recent instabilities in some universities, Dipu Moni said, ‘To complain against someone, you must provide proof of the complaint, action will be taken if the allegations are found true.’
UIU vice-chancellor Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman was present as special guest, while Academia chairperson Sarwat Jeb and its managing director Kutub Uddin were present, among others, in the programme.
