Bangladesh made a poor start in the 2020 AFC Under-19 Championship Qualifiers when they lost 0-3 against hosts Bahrain in their Group E match in Manama on Wednesday night.
Bahrain forward Abdulrahman Sayed scored a brace while midfielder Abdulla Nemer scored the other goal for the winners at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium.
Abdulrahman gave hosts the lead in the 43rd minute before doubling his tally in the 90th minute and Abdulla scored the third goal in the stoppage time of the second half.
Earlier, in the day’s opening match of the same group, Jordan beat Bhutan by identical margin at the same venue.
Bangladesh will play their next game against Jordan today before facing Bhutan on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:15pm Bangladesh Standard Time.
A total of 46 AFC member teams, split into 11 groups, are competing in the qualification round from where 11 group champions, four best runners-up and the hosts Uzbekistan will play the final round in 2020.
