Photo of a Detective Branch sub-inspector in Narayanganj went viral as he was seen sleeping on several bundles of banknotes inside a microbus.

The police officer, Arifur Rahman, without saying about the source of the money claimed that one of his senior owned the money.

The person who snapped the photo and shared with local journalists on condition of anonymity said that when he was passing by the microbus Wednesday morning he found that a police officer with a walkie-talkie, two mobile phones, a file and several bundles of Tk 500 and Tk 1000 notes was sleeping inside the microbus.

He said that suspecting bribe money he took the photo as corruption allegations against police were very common in the district with ‘innocent people’ being harassed often in the area.

He alleged that once he was also forced to bribe police without any fault.

Following such allegation the government has transferred Superintendent of Police in Narayanganj Harun-or-Rashid.

On October 4, Arif allegedly demanded Tk 30 lakh from a businessmen and United Club president Tofazzel Hossain Tapu.

Additional police superintendent of Narayanganj Monirul Islam said that they would investigate the issue.

‘Arif will be punished if he is found guilty in probe,’ he said.
