Rajshahi University political science students on Tuesday staged demonstrations on the campus demanding that an investigation against a teacher should be scrapped.

The university authorities launched an investigation against Professor SM Akram Ullah for allegedly hiring more than 15 outsiders for a demonstration on the campus.

Akram Ullah, however, brushed off the allegation saying that the boys were day labourers and they went to the campus to take their wages from him.

More than a hundred students of the department brought out a procession on campus at 11:00am and later formed a human chain in front of the senate building to press their demands, which included disband of the probe body against their teacher Professor SM Akram Ullah within two days, making the campus free from all kinds of corruption, taking punitive measure against those who are involved in corruption, ensuring safety of all students on campus, restriction on outsiders to enter the campus, and stopping harassing teachers and students without any reason on campus.

Students said that the authorities had formed a probe body against a teacher over false allegation only to harass him personally.

Earlier on October 9, a group of students formed a human chain demanding removal of vice-chancellor M Abdus Sobhan for his reported Jai Hind slogan and of pro-vice-chancellor Choudhury M Zakaria for his alleged involvement in corruption in recruitment of a teacher.

Several outsiders aged between 15 and 20 years took part in the human chain.

Later on November 2, RU authorities, in its syndicate meeting, formed a three-member probe body against Akram Ullah for his alleged involvement hatching conspiracy.
