The Rajshahi University authority has formed a probe body against one of its teachers for his involvement in bringing outsiders to the university campus to join a human chain recently.
The university syndicate in its 494th meeting on Saturday night formed a three-member body comprising of syndicate member Rustom Uddin Ahmed, banking and insurance department chairman Abdul Kuddus, and botany department chairman Golam Kabir to probe allegations against political science professor SM Akram Ullah, said syndicate member Habibur Rahman.
On October 9, a group of students of the university formed a human chain in front of the university central library demanding removal of the university of vice-chancellor M Abdus Sobhan for his reported utterance of Jai Hind and of pro-vice-chancellor Choudhury M Zakaria for his alleged involvement in corruption in recruitment of teacher.
Several outsiders aged between 15 and 20 years were seen to take part in the human chain and they claimed that that professor SM Akram Ullah asked them to come to the campus.
Later, Professor SM Akram Ullah told reporters he asked them to come to the university campus to pay them as they were working at his house as day labour. However, he denied bringing any outsiders to join at the human chain.
The university authority served a show cause notice on SM Akram seeking his explanation why punitive measure would not be taken against him for ‘trying to create under on the campus’.
Professor SM Akram told New Age on Sunday afternoon that he along with other progressive teachers were demonstrating on campus demanding removal of the current administration for their alleged involvement in teacher recruitment scam.
‘To hush up their scam and wrongdoings and to stop our movement against corruption, the university authority is intentionally plotting against me’, he said.
