The prime suspect in Chattogram child specialist Dr Shah Alam murder case was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion at Bashbaria in Sitakunda upazila on early Wednesday.
The deceased was Najir Ahmed Sumon alias Kalu, 26. the leader of a notorious robber gang, claimed RAB sources.
Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, assistant director, media, of RAB 7, said they arrested human hauler driver Omar Faruk, 19, in connection with Shah Alam’s murder on Tuesday.
He confessed to his role in the killing before the court and revealed names of several men, including that of Kalu, involved in it.
A RAB 7 team raided Bashbaria around 4:30am to arrest Kalu. But criminals opened fire as soon as they reached the area.
Kalu was killed on the spot in the ensuing skirmish, RAB sources said, adding that they recovered two firearms and 27 bullets.
Shah Alam, 58, was hacked to death by miscreants while returning home from work in Kumira Ghatghar. He was the paediatric department head of Medina Hospital in Saudi Arabia and recently returned home to serve the people of his locality.
