A woman and her baby daughter suffered acid burns at Chapra of Assasuni in Satkhira early Tuesday allegedly by her ex-husband.
Police said victims Fatima Sultana, 30 and her two-year-old daughter Zakiya Sultana were undergoing treatment at Satkhira General Hospital.
Fatima said she divorced Shahjahan Mollah of Narail a year back and had been living at her father’s place at Chapra of Assasuni.
On Monday, Fatima went to sleep with her daughter in a room. At midnight Shahjahan went to the house and asked her to open the window.
As Fatima opened the window, Shahjahan threw acid targeting her which also poured on Zakiya, who was sleeping on the bed.
Assasuni police station officer-in-charge Abdus Salam said they were conducting drivers to arrest Shahjahan.
A case was filed in this connection.
Satkhira General Hospital physician Iqbal Mahmud said Fatima was critically injured as her face, eye, chest and a part of abdomen were severely burnt.
He suspected one of the eyes of the victim might be damaged permanently.
