Dhaka North City Corporation’s ward councillor and Mohammadpur unit Awami general secretary Habibur Rahman Mizan was sent to Moulvibazar jail on Tuesday in a case filed under arms control act.
Court inspector of the Moulvibazar police, Abdul Hai, confirmed New Age of the court order in this regard.
He said that Mizan was produced before the court of district judicial magistrate Abdullah Mohammad Salehi at around 11:00am showing him arrested in the case filed with Shrimangal police on October 11. ‘The court sent him to jail,’ the court inspector said.
Shrimangal police sub-inspector Alamgir Hossain, also investigation officer in the case, told New Age a special team of Rapid Action Battalion had arrested Mizan at Shrimagal on October 11.
The battalion also seized 1 unlicensed pistol, 4 cartridges and Tk 2 lakh in cash from him.
RAB 9 Shrimangal camp Senior Warrant Officer Md Abdul Jabbar also had filed a case under the arms control act with the local police on that day, the police officer said.
Mizan, a suspect of corruption and money laundering, was taken later to the Dhaka and recovered cheques of Tk 6.77 crore and a fixed deposit receipts of Tk 1 crore after conducting raids in his office at Lalmatia and residence at Mohammadpur in the capital.
Another case was filed against Mizan on charge of money laundering with the Mohammadpur police.
Alamgir Hossain told New Age Mizan was sent to Shrimangal from Dhaka after completion of a seven-day remand to produce him before the Moulvibazar court seeking its order in the case filed here against him.
