The government on Tuesday asked the government primary school teachers not to leave their respective work stations so that they could not join their planned rally in Dhaka scheduled for today.

All the schools would remain closed today in observance of Akheri Chahar Shomba.

A circular issued by director general of the Directorate of Primary Education Directorate AFM Monzur Quader reads: the order was given on the basis of the information that a number of government primary teachers had planned to gather at the Central Shaheed Minar today for ‘creating disorder in the capital.’

The holiday, however, was not cancelled through the circular.

The directorate officials passed copies of the circular to head teachers of the government primary schools on Tuesday and asked them to ensure the teachers did not leave their work stations.

It was not possible to check teachers going out to join a rally in Dhaka on a holiday, said a head teacher preferring anonymity.

Associations of primary school teachers on Friday declared a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar for today demanding up-gradation of their salary scale from 14th to 11th grade of the National Pay Scale.
