Gono University emerge champs

Gono Bishwabidyalay emerged champions in the third Faraaz Inter-university Gold Cup football tournament beating South East University 4-2 on penalties in the final at the Bangabandhu National stadium on Monday.

After the stipulated time of the match ended goalless the match went into tie-breaker where Gono Bishwabidyalay’s Shakwat Hossain, Bibek Mondol, Sojib Rajbiongshi and Ripon Mollah converted their penalty shots to guide their team for their maiden title of the competition.

For South East University, Ismail Hossain and Mostakim Shahrier missed their chances.

South East reached the final beating Bangladesh University of Textiles by 4-1 goals in the first semi-final while Gono Bishwabidyalay defeated last edition’s winners Fareast International University by 3-0 goals in other semi-final to book their place in the final. 

A total of 22-private universities took part in this tournament, named after Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain, who was a victim of terrorist attack in Holey Artisan in Gulshan in 2016.
