Saturday’s double murder in Chattogram was a sequel to extramarital affairs, police said on Sunday.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police additional Commissioner Amena Begum at a press conference at Dampara Police Lines said slain Abu Taher’s wife Hasina, 24, killed him and their daughter Bibi Fatima, 4, on Saturday as the Fatima witnessed Hasina’s extramarital affair with their neighbour Main Uddin.
Police took Hasina in their custody and arrested Main Uddin at Noakhali early Sunday.
During interrogation the duo admitted that they had developed extramarital relationship for past few months.
On Saturday morning, Fatema saw them in intimate posture and threatened to inform her father of it when he returns home and it prompted them to kill her, police said. Main held her hands and legs and Hasina slit her throat with a knife and when Taher returned home from work, Hasina and Main also stabbed him to death, police added.
After killing husband and daughter, Hasina claimed she found the bodies after returning home from work. Hasina works as a housemaid in the area.
It was second marriage of both Taher and Hasina.
Police found throat-slit bodies of Taher, 35, a labourer, and his daughter Bibi Fatema, 4, in their house in Alam Bhaban at Nimtali area in Chattogram. A blood-stained knife was also found at the spot.
Taher’s brother Nur Alam filed a murder case with in Port Police Station.
