The High Court Division on Sunday summoned the investigator in the sensational double murder case of journalists couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi to know the progress in probes.
The mystery of the murder case remained unsolved since February 11, 2012, when Sagar, news editor of Maasranga TV channel and his wife Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla were murdered in cold blood at their rented flat at Paschim Razabazar in the capital in front of their minor son Megh.
The investigation has been pending with the RAB since April 18, 2012.
A bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman directed the RAB director general to ensure that the investigation officer turns up at the November 6 hearing with the case docket.
The bench passed the order while hearing a petition filed by accused Tanvir Rahman, now free on bail to stay the proceedings against him.
The bench also issued a rule asking the government to explain in two weeks why the proceedings in the case against Tanvir would not be quashed.
His lawyer Fawzia Karim Firoze submitted that that her client Tanvir, accounts officer of an English medium school in the capital was innocent and that he was unable to get married due to pendency of the proceedings against him.
At least eight suspects including the couple’s ‘family friend’ Tanvir Rahman was arrested.
On March 8, 2015, Tanvir was freed on bail by the High Court Division. The other accused are in jail custody.
Initially, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station started the investigation in the double murder case.
Later, the case was transferred to the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police for investigations.
On April 18, 2012, the High Court Division in an order transferred the case to RAB for expeditious investigations.
