A 26-member central committee of Sramik Karmachari Federation, the labour front of Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist),  was announced on Friday re-electing Jahirul Islam, as president  and Ujjal Roy as general secretary.

The committee was announced by Jahirul Islam at a national conference of the organisation held at Central Shaheed Minar premises.

At the opening session of the conference, general secretary of the party Mubinul Haider Chowdhury said the common people and the labourers become most deprived with the advancement of economy.

The rich were becoming richer and the poor were poorer, Mubinul said.

The opening session was followed by a discussion where general secretary of All India United Trade Union Shankar Saha said the trade union bodies must be united to compel the mills and factory owners to meet their rights.

He proposed formation of regional unity among the trade union bodies in South Asia.

Jahirul Islam who chaired the discussion said in Bangladesh the workers were mostly deprived segment in the society and their wages were not enough to minimum expenses of their families.

A cultural session was also held as part of the conference. Several hundred workers and employees from across the country attended the conference.
