Saif Hasan continued his impressive form as he struck 120 off 173 balls to put Dhaka division in a strong position against Rangpur division on the opening day of National Cricket League second round in Chattogram on Thursday.

Saif, who made a hundred for Bangladesh A team against in Sri Lanka during a recent one-day match, struck his fourth first-class hundred while Rony Talukdar and Roqibul Hasan also made fifties that drove Dhaka to 314-4 at stumps.

In the other tier-1 match, off-spinner Mehedi Hasan claimed 4-38 while pacer duo Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain took two wickets each as Khulna bowled out Rajshahi for 261 runs in their first innings in Khulna.

Dhaka v Rangpur

Opting to bat first, Rony and Abdul Mazid gave Dhaka a decent start as they put 66 runs in the opening stand before Sohrawardi Shuvo dismissed Mazid for 17.

Rony became Shuvo’s second victim after making 65 off 114 balls but Saif and Roqibul then carried Dhaka innings by adding 127 runs for the third wicket.

Roqibul was dismissed for 57 off 93 balls but Saif continued his good form and struck 13 fours and three sixes before he was retired hurt.

Khulna bowlers, led by Mehedi, soon found their feet in the game as they took regular wickets to bowl out Rajshahi before stumps.

Junaed made highest 51 while Farhad Reza scored 41 for Rajshahi.

Chattogram v Bairshal

Chattogram suffered a blow when opener Tamim Iqbal was ruled out of the match after sustaining a rib injury that he suffered during a practice session two days back.

In Tamim’s absence, Pinak Ghosh and Irfan Sukkur (57) put 54 runs in the opening stand.

At one stage, Barishal reduced Chattogram to 144-4 before Yasir and Mahidul steadied the innings with an unbroken 117-run for the fifth wicket.

Mahidul remained unbeaten on 69 off 113 balls while Yasir made 68 off 152 to put the side on course for a big total.

Metro v Sylhet

Despite fifties from Mahmudullah (63 off 108) and Shahidul (54 off 92), none of the Metro batsmen could do much with bat as they were bundled out for a modest total after they were sent into bat.

Playing his second first-class match Rejaur was Sylhet’s most successful bowler while Enamul Haqur Jnr and Alok Kapali also claimed two wickets each.
