The Bangladesh Railway authorities have suspended three officials on charge of running Pabna Express train without its main driver, loco master.
The train went to Rajshahi from Pabna and returned to Pabna on Sunday without the key train deriver.
After getting the information, railway authorities suspended Pabna Express loco master Aslam Uddin Khan, assistant loco master Ahsan Uddin Khan and guard Anwar Hossain on Monday, said Bangladesh Railway’s Pakshey divisional transportation officer Abdulla Al Mamun.
‘Usually two drivers are assigned to drive trains — one is the key loco master and another assistant loco master. On Sunday, the assistant loco master ran the Pabna Express train without the key loco master. The guard did not even inform the matter to the railway authorities,’ Abdulla Al Mamun added.
The officials were suspended temporarily, he also said.
Pakshey divisional mechanical engineer Ashish Kumar said they immediately assigned another driver after they learnt that the train ran without it key driver.
‘Bangladesh Railway ensures double operators in every train for the safety of the journey. The accused loco master was absent without informing the authorities. We are investigating the matter,’ Ashish said.
‘Aslam Uddin Khan is a leader of the railway workers’ union and probably he dared to be absent without permission from the authorities,’ said another officer.
