A Dhaka court on Sunday placed alleged casino kingpin Salim Prodhan in fresh remand for five days in a money laundering case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury granted remand for Salim Prodhan, his two accomplices, Roman and Akteruzzaman, when investigation officer of the case Md Shahidul Islam of Criminal Investigation Department sought 10-day remand for each of them.
On September 30, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Salim at Dhaka airport when he was going to Thailand.
Meanwhile, suspended Juba League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat’s mother at a news conference in Dhaka on Sunday claimed her son was innocent and demanded his immediate release as he was ‘very sick’.
Sayera Khatun, the 80-year-old mother of former Dhaka south unit Juba League president Samrat, said, ‘Please have mercy and release him and arrange better treatment for him abroad.’
Samrat was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion at Cumilla on October 6.
‘Samrat underwent an open-heart surgery in 1990 and continued to work for the party despite being ill,’ she said Addressing the prime minister, she said, ‘Samrat is your activist. He is like your son. As a mother, I request you to forgive his mistakes and release him.’
She said Samrat was the ideal soldier of the ‘father of the nation’ as he has worked for Awami League for long.
