Female chess player fights for life

Female chess player Khadeja Yasmin was undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University after she was seriously injured in a road accident in late September, Bangladesh Chess Federation said on Tuesday.

Khadeja, 49, a participant of the recent national championship, is also the mother of two internationally rated chess players Zannatul Mawa Mawri and Mushfiqa Zannat Sawri.

Khadeja suffered the accident on Saturday, September 27 when she was returning home from Abdur Razzak Chess Academy in Dhanmondi after chess coaching of her daughter Sawri.

While crossing the road in front of the Aarong near Jatio Sangsad Bhaban, she was hit by a reckless motor cycle to suffer a serious head injury.

She was admitted to Ibne Sina Hospital where she underwent surgery on her brain.

Her condition deteriorated later and she was transferred to the ICU of BSMMU.

Khaiza got three points from nine matches in the national championship.
