Bangladesh crush Oman in opener

Bangladesh Under-21 hockey team made a brilliant start in the five-match friendly series against their Omanis counterparts when they thrashed the visitors by 5-1 goals in the opening match at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Captain Ashraful Islam, Arshad Hossain, Shohanur Rahman Sajib, Naim Uddin and Mahbub Hossain scored one goal each for the winners while Oman captain Rashed Al Fazari scored the lone goal for his country.

The hosts took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter as Ashraful scored from a penalty corner in the third minute followed by a field goal from Arshad just three minutes later.

Sajib was the only scorer in the second quarter, scoring from a penalty corner in the 17th minute.

Naim extended the lead from a penalty corner in the 33rd minute before Rashed scored a field goal in the 35th minute to reduce the gap for Oman.

Mahbub hammered the final nail in the Oman’s coffin with a field goal in the 42nd minute.

The second match will be held today at the same venue.
