The cabinet committee on economic affairs at a meeting on Wednesday approved construction of an outer-ring-road around Dhaka under public-private-partnership at an estimated cost of Tk 10,200 crore.
Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal who presided over the meeting also approved another proposal to buy two million machine readable passport booklets and same number of lamination foils without any tender.
At a bringing, Mustafa Kamal said the proposed outer-ring-road was a long standing project under which 138 kilometre road would be constructed.
The day’s meeting approved construction of 48km under design, build, finance, operate and transfer system known as DBFOT, he said.
He said they were expecting that Japan would construct the road.
Mustafa said the ministry of home affairs sought purchasing two million machine readable passport booklets and two million lamination foils on direct purchase for meeting emergency need of passports.
He said De la Rue, a UK company, would supply the booklets at the cost of Tk 41 crore.
Besides, a meeting of the cabinet committee on national purchases at same venue, also presided over by Mustafa Kamal, approved five proposals.
The proposals include procurement of 230 km cable from local BRB Cable Industries Ltd for implementation of a Rural Electrification Board projects worth Tk 112.78 crore and a contract for construction of high rise buildings for sweepers in the capital by Navana Construction Limited at revised cost of Tk 101.31 crore from previous Tk 78.96 crore.
